Somebody above asked this question, actually “潛台詞” should be translated as “subtext” (or I should say “subtext” should be translated into “潛台詞” in Chinese).

About that To Git guy, I really cannot stand him!! He really hasn’t much of a clue about British history or literature and yet he self-styles himself as this great intellectual!! The pomposity just makes me puke! In relation to his degree in Eng. Lit, it’s really not that hard to get a BA in this subject in the UK at all. Anyway, where did he get his degree from? I don’t imagine it’s from any of the top-tier colleges.

Having said that though, I agree broadly with Czar above who said that “我覺得這樣的指責很無聊, 我幾年前往英國格林威治大學留學,local讀’gren-nich’,唔讀’green-nich’,但我曾在當地觀光巴士上聽過廣播讀’green-wich’,所以我認為你的指責只流於’何文匯式批評’.” Greenwich should be pronounced as “Gren-nich” rather than “Green-nich” – not only is this the appropriate pronunciation in British English (as pronounced by my Oxbridge-educated lecturers), but also in American English (I lived in Greenwich Village in Manhattan for about a year). In any case, he only used to the conventional Chinese translation of the place-name rather than actually pronounced it as “Green-wich” in English, so the criticism above is a bit of much ado about nothing. There are way more worthier targets in To Git’s “pearls of wisdom” to be sniping him about, and unfortunately this isn’t really one of them.

無知兼無聊。咁既野拎黎做話題代表無知，煞有介事寫幾百字代表無聊。如果陶傑讀”碧咸”，你會唔會又寫幾百字話人地個名 Beckham 根本唔係咁讀? 外語名稱中譯根本好多時都係約定俗成。陶傑晌節目入面冇用英文讀過 “Greenwich”，你就用佢讀既中譯名稱黎做文章，同《Critique on陶傑》這種書的作者一樣，要靠捉陶傑錯處黎滿足自己d ego。

所以緊記pronunciation同spelling無關係好緊要,要寫要識串,記abcdefg…., 要識讀,查記音標.

pronunciation方面,小弟亦好怕好多人將英美兩式混合使用,一d字讀美式,eg pasta, 一d字讀英式, eg mobile.

不過說回來,讀英文永無止境,幾叻都會有錯既機會,問題係有無係適當場合虛心咁作嚴謹準備,同有無錯而能改.

與其說是才子與健筆的差異, 不如說是個人作風的差異,有人拘謹, 有人豪放, 有人氾濫, 最重要的是作者知道自己的定位, 讀者知道在讀誰的文章就行了。
另外, 《Critique on陶傑》這種書, 你問問作者敢不敢將書名改為《Critique on才子》之類, 不敢, 因為這種書要有”陶傑”的名字才有銷量, 這也就為什麼有人抓到陶傑的錯誤就要用挖苦的口吻大事鞭撻, 求的只是金錢上或精神上”踏低才子, 抬高自己”的滿足而已….
